If your home office is short on space but needs secure storage, the HOMCOM Lockable Desk with Bookshelf & File Drawer, Oak Effect 836-663V00AK, is a practical solution. From the practical experience of our consultants at FastDaddyshop, this particleboard office desk combines a compact 100 x 50 cm tabletop with an overall footprint of 126W x 50D x 109H cm, making it well suited to spare rooms, rented flats and study nooks. The lockable file drawer accepts A4, Letter and Legal hanging folders (adjustable rails) and comes with two keys — a feature our store managers often recommend for freelance professionals who handle confidential paperwork at home.
Compared with a standard 120–140 cm office desk, the 100 cm tabletop here sacrifices a small amount of surface area but gains built-in shelving and a secure filing drawer, so it is preferable when storage and document security are priorities in a small footprint. Note the specified load limits: 50 kg for the tabletop and 15 kg for the file drawer (85 kg overall). In practice, adhere to these limits and install the anti-tipping strap supplied; based on observations from our consultants, correct installation of the anti-tipping device and the four anti-collision corner pads significantly reduces the risk of accidents in family homes. Assembly is required and a manual is included; allow approximately 45–90 minutes depending on experience. Practical caution: ensure hanging rails are correctly adjusted for Legal folders if you store larger documents, and avoid placing more than 5 kg on each shelf to stay within the 5 kg per-shelf recommendation.
