Desks for Home Working and Home Offices

A dedicated workspace makes all the difference between a productive day and constant back-and-forth across the kitchen table. Whether you're setting up a permanent home office, carving out a study corner for the kids, or need a compact writing desk for a spare bedroom, FastDaddyshop stocks computer desks and work tables to suit every room size. On our site you can order compact desks under 100 cm wide for small flats, height-adjustable standing desks for longer working days, and corner desks that make use of otherwise wasted space.

Choosing a desk: what our customers ask most

  • What's the standard desk height? Most fixed desks sit between 72 cm and 76 cm, which suits the average adult working from a standard office chair. Our consultants often advise height-adjustable models (typically 60–125 cm) for households where more than one person, or a growing teenager, will be using the same desk.
  • How much desktop space do I actually need? From the experience of FastDaddyshop's managers, a desktop of at least 100 x 60 cm is the practical minimum for a monitor, keyboard and paperwork without feeling cramped, while dual-monitor setups tend to need 140 cm or more. A compact desk is the better choice only where floor space is genuinely limited, not simply as a way to save money.
  • Solid wood or laminate — which lasts longer? In practice, laminate-topped desks resist scratches and spilled coffee noticeably better than untreated wood, and cope well with the fluctuating humidity common in older British homes. We'd add an expert caution: check the maximum load rating before mounting monitor arms, as lighter laminate desks are usually rated to 20–25 kg.

Once your desk is sorted, it's worth thinking about what goes around it. Many of our customers pair a new desk with a supportive office chair, add bookcases and shelves to keep reference materials within reach, or bring in storage cabinets to keep the whole room properly organised.
